El Hilo de Justicia/The Thread of Justice - Sewing Cooperative/Cooperativa de Costura was established in 1996 as a way to bring displaced garment workers and elderly women (age 60+) from the local area together so they may utilize their trade or gain hands-on skill-based training in a positive safe space. The Sewing Cooperative strives to develop an alternative model for social, environmental and economic justice that would provide jobs that have a clean and safe environment, a living wage, nurture leadership development and business opportunities for women.
